For teaching me to live without judgement and love without measure, I am forever grateful.
-
Dearest Odette, Today the sun is shining and there is a slight breeze in the air. The trees are green and everyone who loves you dearly is here. I wish I had been able to spend more time with you. You gave me some great advice before you left and I will always remember you for the happy, beautiful girl you are.
-
I will always remember your smile and kind giving and open heart.
-
You were a spark of light into all our lives when we least expected it. I will never forget your smile, laughter and unconditional friendship. I hope to live my life with the same joy you lived yours.
-
My mum used to work with Odette and my favourite thing with her was playing with serviettes. And she used to tickle me a lot. I miss Odette
-
Detts, You’re an angel !! I never saw you not smiling. You were by far one of the bubbliest fun loving people I have ever met. You will be missed. I’m so sad to say goodbye.
-
The light, warmth and inspiration you bought to each of our lives will be sorely missed. Your humour and those sparkly eyes. Rest in peace knowing you have impacted upon each of us profoundly.
-
I will remember always us visiting Odette on her working holiday in England and finding her, so animated and popular, pulling pints behind the bar of the Blue Boar near Oxford , and patently having such fun, but when I asked her about her violin, she said she really missed it, and her eyes filled with tears.
-
I love you and will miss your smile, heart, face, singing, dancing, eating, playing and loving. You are a part of me forever.
-
You were such a special girl. There aren’t many who can bring happiness wherever they go. I feel lucky to have known you. You will be so very missed.
-
Dear Odette, You always made me feel important and the most valuable person in the room . You even said you liked my cooking. But now I know that you were always the most important in the room. I will miss you and the love you brought.
-
Odette loved to wear interesting hats.
-
I recall Odette as a sweet, rather shy law student in my class. As the class members introduced themselves, I think I mentioned Swan Lake because of her very beautiful and rather unusual name and because she had the dark beauty of a classical ballerina. In deepest sympathy.
-
Dear Odette, I am sad that you are gone. Yet whenever I think of you I smile thinking of all the happy memories. From the moment I met you at law school you were such a warm and friendly person. You were the energy that drove our infamous study group and your inquisitive and principled spirit was, and will always be, my inspiration to understand and not just accept the law and indeed all things in life. I am humbled to have known you and so glad to have had you as a friend. I will miss you but I will always feel happy when I remember your heartwarming smile and giggle and the good times that would always follow.
-
Dearest Odette, You leave an everlasting impression with me of joy and laughter. I will never forget how infectious your fun light way of being was, and the difference that made on me. In short, you make me smile.
-
Odette was one of those rare kinds of people who had the ability to make others happy by just being in their presence. She was always there to brighten up my day no matter what the situation. Odette is stamped at the top of my “favourite people” list. You know, those fantastic people you envy and always wish you saw more often. Beautifully kind and wonderfully quirky, it is impossible not to fall in love with her. Her memory will live on and the very thought of her is enough to continue spreading happiness.
-
How privileged we are to have had a cousin as gorgeous as Det. We will always remember her beautiful smile, great sense of humour, her laughter, so cute as a child and so stunning as an adult. Her many talents, her thoughtfulness, her love of life, family and friends.
-
Odette, I’ll always remember your beautiful smile.
-
Odette, You were such a dear friend to me. I remember the way you would sing in your car and dance, and your beautiful smile. I will always be grateful for that time we spent together. And I hope one day in another life we meet again.
-
Odette, A dear friend, beautiful in everyway. Stunning, welcoming, creative and amazing. Always remembered.
-
Dear Odette, Although I wish I’d known you better at Uni .when I saw you here you treated me like an old friend, and I expect that’s how you were with everyone – welcoming and warm and always had time for people; You dry sense of humour came as somewhat of a surprise or contrast to your genuine open nature. I can remember talking to you in first year about seeming importance of BBQ at ANU, with sausages set up somewhere every week for a different society and you could make even a simple off-hand comment witty and hilarious with perfect timing and tone of voice.
-
Working with Odette was an awesome experience, even on a bad day she would smile and make everyone around her enjoy that day. She had an outgoing personality, beautiful smile and a heart of gold and will be missed by all!
-
The quintessential, funky, radiant, delicious and delightful friend. It’s been an honour.!
-
Odette was so vibrant and passionate and involved in so many activities. She was funny, loyal, incredible musician, caring, had a social conscience and a big heart. I will never forget her. She was the most amazing, alive person I have ever met. Odette, I miss you. You are a beautiful person.
-
I remember always being so amazed by Odette. She had such a wicked sense of humour and was so much fun to be around. It was always as barrel of laughs when you were around her
-
Everyone loves Odette. Even before I knew her well I was always struck by how beautiful she was. A true inner glow that was clear in all her features. We did French together and used to chat. She was always so alive, so much fun to be around, so interesting to talk to, so active and always involved in a million interesting things.
-
The last time I saw her was just before she left. I was sitting up the back of the garden with my friend Pierre . She came out to say goodbye. She was dressed up to go out, with a touch of lipstick and her hair done up. She looked absolutely beautiful. She stood on the back step, laughing and chatting with us, blowing kisses and waving. Odette is so loved, so missed and will never be forgotten. Her life, so short but so full is a tribute to her parents and family.
-
Dear Odette, Mate, I wish I’d known you better. Now, it will have to be this letter But I’ll be writing it in thoughts and prayers and song to you, gorgeous Odette, the rest of my life long. Your incredible talent for music and language. Your cheeky wit and funky style, your lack of interest in cliques and piques shrugged off with that stunning smile .Your generosity in extending a hand of unconditional friendship. You helped me through a rough time with words of wisdom and a depth of empathy far beyond your years. (Oh God, I wish you were here for a laugh over a few cold beers..)
-
A lovely memory for me was at the Carol Evening last December when Odette and Jill sang together. As they sang, they would often glance at each other and smile. Their love and affection for each other was obvious. I can remember thinking at that time what a special thing it must be for a mother and daughter to be able to share their talent at that special time of year, and what a beautiful memory to keep in your heart
Memories of the younger Odette
-
A memory of Odette.. I was in Peter Pan with Odette in Grade 3. She gave me a friendly pat on the back which hurt cause I was a typical red head and bad sunburn. Her immediate concern and care remain in my memory even now. Her beauty, care and kindness will be my inspiration.
-
I still remember a Christmas party at school in kindergarten. Odette and I were so happy to get matching presents from Santa. She had a beautiful smile and I’ll smile every time I think of her
-
I remember Odette as a young primary school child. She was always smiling and helpful and always brightened my day after our little chats. Those memories will be with me forever.
-
What I remember above all is Odette’s kindness. Even as an 8 year old, she would be concerned if my daughter, who was very shy was not joining in the games. She would seek her out and provide support. She had grown into such a beautiful young woman.
-
I remember the beautiful mermaid with the pure voice in Peter Pan.
-
Odette would sit in her parent’s cupboard on the cordless while we talked for hours about stupid boys we had crushes on. Odette had a card on her bedroom wall – the Clintons when they were younger and very ugly, it was hilarious. Once Selene decided to do summersaults and wobbled Odette’s parent’s expensive Italian sculpture heads. Odette said “Look Selene, I don’t care if you break your head, just don’t break those heads”.
-
Odette organized a Murder Mystery Party , she chose our roles and we all dressed up. We went to the Canberra Show together and Skyfire and I always loved the conversations we had. Even though Odette was the most intelligent girl I’d ever met, she never made me feel silly or as though she looked down on me.
-
I’ll never forget the school holidays we spent nearly a whole week consecutively at each other’s houses thinking we were so cunning, convincing our parents that one more sleepover won’t hurt. The brightest, most hilarious and most embarrassing memory that will forever be immortalized on video (at first to my horror but now to my gratitude) is of you and I in my study, doing our very best Tonia Todman impersonation, explaining to the camera just how much of an art form wrapping Christmas presents can be, and the exceptional skill entailed in sticking tape and placing ribbon in exactly the right spot. We gave Better Homes and Gardens a run for their money. And I don’t think anyone from Telopea Park School will ever forget the role call at the finale of our performance at Year 6 end of year concert. About how, when it came to your turn, you ran up to the microphone, arms raised triumphantly above your head, exclaiming your name incredibly loudly and incredibly proudly to the audience. There wasn’t a person in that hall that did not laugh or smile at that moment, and there won’t ever be a time that I remember and don’t do the same. That moment embodies who you are to me, a fun, outgoing, hilarious and gorgeous girl who loved life and adored her friends and family. Nothing is brighter in my memory than your smile and the sound of your laugh, because that was you, always so happy and cheerful and passionate.

“Odi” will always , always live on in our hearts, her smile and sense of fun were such an important part in our sons life. Noah said “Odi’s now gone back over the rainbow bridge to her other home”.
